Dancestors
workshop facilitated by Celeste Combes, in collaboration with sound artist Nicole Bettencourt, at the Royal School of Speech and Drama, 2019.
31st of October, day of the dead.
We will dance our ancestors.
We will ask our bodies:
What are you made of?
Who do you carry?
We will embody extinct animals and plants.
With the channels of our bodies we will probe the Earth's layers of memories.We will explore the states of mourning, shedding, decomposing.
We will play with remains from animals and minerals. Please bring rocks, bones and fossils.We will work with personal and familial fossils. Please bring an item that you inherited from your human ancestors.
By playing with these objects we will be able to connect our personal genealogy to the planetary evolution of species.
